How to Manage Your Collection Tree

Collections Tree allows you to organize your product collections into a clear, hierarchical structure—rather than a flat list like Shopify’s default. With an intuitive drag-and-drop interface, you can easily create parent and child collections, making it easier for customers to browse your store with context and clarity.

This feature not only enhances the shopping experience but also improves SEO by creating logical breadcrumbs and a more structured URL hierarchy.

The Collections Tree also powers the theme app extension blocks:

  • Breadcrumbs: displays a navigation path based on the tree structure.

  • Subcollections: shows child collections under the current collection.

These blocks dynamically use your collection hierarchy, allowing for a consistent and visually engaging storefront experience.

Edit collections tree

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Apps > FDL Breadcrumbs & Collections.
  2. Click the "Collection tree" item on the left sidebar.
  3. The left area shows collections that has been added to the tree. The right sidebar shows available collections that have not added to the tree yet, click on any items you want to add them to the tree. You can drag & drop items in the left area to arrange them in many levels.

  1. If you make any changes to your store’s collections—such as adding or removing collections—just click the “Sync Shopify Collections” button to refresh and update your tree with the latest data from Shopify. Collections that have been deleted will appear with a red border. Removing them from the tree helps ensure the blocks continue to work as expected.

  2. Click the Save button to save your changes.
